A message in light of the recent COVID-19 outbreak

Dear Parishioners,                                                                  Feast of St. Joseph March 19, 2020

This letter is to advise you of all the steps we are taking to continue as a parish when we cannot gather together. Mass and confessions continue to be offered! See below.

Collections: Please know that the parish continues to function. Since we cannot take up Sunday collections we advise you to use online giving at www.stmargchurchmattydale.org. Simply scroll down to the bottom of the webpage and click on Donate to St. Margaret’s. You can give through your credit or debit card or your checking account. You can choose to give donations one at a time, returning to the website each time, or schedule them, weekly, monthly, etc.

You can also give by mail. An envelope stamped and addressed to St. Margaret’s is included with this mailing, you can send your donations this way. Or you can drop them off at the parish offices, please put the donation envelope through the mail slot.

As long as this COVID19 coronavirus crisis continues we will need your support either online, by mail, or by directly dropping off your contributions.

Office hours: Our offices will be open on reduced hours. We prefer that you call ahead to see if what you want can be dealt with over the phone. Mass cards will be mailed to you. The Mass offering for the Mass intention can be mailed to us.

Holy Mass: Even though the public cannot be present I continue to celebrate private Masses. All Mass intentions are being fulfilled. We will have Sunday Mass available as a video on Facebook. Please check the parish website, www.stmargchurchmattydale.org where there will be a link to the video, or go directly to the parish Facebook page.

Mass is also available on television and Bishop Lucia is live streaming his daily Mass on the internet through this link: www.youtube.com/syrdio. You can make a spiritual communion during the communion time of the Mass; a spiritual communion prayer is listed below.

Spiritual Communion:  My Jesus, I believe you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things and I desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You. Amen

Funerals: Funerals will continue, but with attendance of immediate family and/or a maximum of ten people. Please join all those mourning in prayer for their loved ones.

Confessions: Although we cannot have public Masses, private confessions will be available at the usual time, Saturday at 3:30 PM – 4:30 PM. Please do not come if you are sick, wash your hands before coming, keep a hygienic distance of six feet from other people while in church, please make your confession from behind the screen.

Bulletins: Bulletins will be available in the church greeting area at the above Confession times. The bulletin is also available online at our parish website, www.stmargchurchmattydale.org.

Prayer: Please pray for an end to this pandemic. The Rosary, Divine Mercy chaplet, or a simple prayer from your heart can all help. Bishop Lucia has also asked us to pray a novena (a prayer said for nine days). We recited this prayer in church on Saturday and Sunday. A copy is below. Please join in this prayer from home.

Food Pantry: Many people will need our help during this time. The parish food pantry has had great demand, as you can imagine. Please call them at 315-454-4515 if you wish to donate money, food or to volunteer. Also, Meals on Wheels needs volunteers, one hour of volunteering can help the homebound get two meals for that day. Contact them at: 315-478-5948 or at www.meals.org. We are all in this together.

Novena Prayer:

O Mary, full of grace, Patroness of this nation and Mother of the Church, in this time of illness and worldwide need we seek your intercession for the human family before your Son’s throne of grace and mercy. We ask for strength in adversity, health in weakness, and comfort in sorrow. Help us, O Blessed Mother, to be filled with confidence and trust in the tender compassion of our God. Let us not be afraid, like our own Saint Marianne Cope, who entrusted her life and ministry among the outcasts of society into the care of our Divine Physician. Continue to watch over all who are sick as well as those who care for them and give wisdom to all who are seeking a cure.  We ask this through Christ, our Lord.  Amen.

With God’s help, the prayers of Mother Mary, St. Margaret Mary, and St. Marianne, we can get through this. May this challenging time bring us closer to God and each other.

In Christ,

Fr. Rob Hyde
